Job Description

The James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina (JBE CDM) is seeking applications for a full-time faculty position in the Department of Reconstructive and Rehabilitation Sciences with the primary responsibility to serve as the Director for the Nexton Dental Clinic.

Located 30 minutes from downtown Charleston, in the vicinity of Summerville, Nexton is one of the fastest growing and most vibrant developing areas in the state of South Carolina.

The Director’s primary role is to oversee and manage day-to-day operations of a four operatory dental clinic located in a prime location, by providing comprehensive dental care to patients as well as overseeing dental students and residents as they rotate through the clinic. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position.

Educational Responsibilities. The position will serve as the course director for the dental student’s clinical experiences while at the Nexton Dental Clinic. The Director may participate in other teaching activities and/or other clinical duties, as assigned, at the JBE CDM facility located in downtown Charleston, South Carolina.

Clinical Responsibilities. The Director will lead a dental team in the delivery of comprehensive general dentistry in the MUSC Dental Clinic located at the Nexton Dental Clinic. In addition to providing direct clinical care, the Director also has overall responsibility for the administrative management of the clinic including hiring and supervising a dental hygienist, a dental assistant, and a patient care coordinator/office manager.

Requirements. The ideal candidate will be a clinician with at least 10 years’ clinical experience, with excellent proficiency in Digital Dentistry technology. The candidate must be willing and able to provide direct clinical care, oversee and instruct students, be a strong communicator and have a positive personality conducive to developing a compassionate, respectful, and productive work environment.

Previous experience working in an academic environment is preferred, but not required. Advanced training in general dentistry (AEGD or GPR) also is preferred.

Successful applicants must have a DMD or DDS degree and should qualify for a South Carolina full or teaching dental license. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with experience. The position may require flexible hours.
