Job Description

Lead Equipment Technician

Job Summary/Purpose: The Lead Equipment Technician for Respiratory reports to the Adult RT Manager. Under limited supervision, the Lead Respiratory Equipment Technician provides supervision, training and direction to support the department and organizational mission. This role cleans, disinfects, assembles, and maintains life support and other respiratory care equipment. Included are operation verification procedures for ventilators and other associated equipment such as heaters and oxygen analyzers. The Lead Equipment Technician performs minor equipment repairs. This position maintains stock levels and accurate computer records of all work performed.

Minimum Training and Education: High school diploma and three years of work experience within a sterile processing department; or graduation from an accredited sterile processing or surgical technician program and one year of work experience within a sterile processing department. Demonstrated understanding of decontamination, disaster preparedness, education and compliance, regulatory guidelines to meet JC standards. Working knowledge of inventory control and supply procedures required. Prior medical and/or respiratory related equipment maintenance in an acute or sub-acute hospital, homecare company, or educational setting preferred. Computer literacy with experience in spreadsheets and database entries required with strong organizational skills to maintain appropriate inventory levels. The ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbal and written.

Required Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations: Certification in Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from

another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
