The Seasonal Education Guide is responsible for creating engaging, educational, and memorable learning experiences for students, families, and visitors at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens. This position supports Magnolia’s educational programming through the delivery of field trips, tours, hands-on learning experiences, and other educational programs that connect visitors with Magnolia’s history, gardens, natural environment, and cultural resources. The ideal candidate has a strong background in education, teaching, interpretation, or a related field and is passionate about working with learners of varying ages and backgrounds.

This position will primarily support weekday field trips and educational programming, with hours structured around scheduled programs and business needs.

Anticipated working hours are 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., during the school year, with hours varying based on business needs and scheduled activities.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging, age-appropriate educational programs and field trips for elementary, middle, and high school students.
  • Drive and operate the Nature Train while providing age-appropriate interpretation and educational experiences for students and visitors.
  • Facilitate hands-on learning activities that encourage observation, exploration, critical thinking, and participation.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and positive learning environment for students, teachers, chaperones, and other visitors.
  • Maintain strong classroom and group-management skills while conducting programs throughout the property.
  • Provide feedback regarding programs, visitor engagement, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Magnolia’s educational and operational goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, History, Interpretation, Environmental Education, Museum Studies, or a related field.
  • One or more years of experience working in an educational setting, including teaching, classroom instruction, informal education, interpretation, or youth programming.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage and engage groups of varying ages and sizes.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with other departments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while leading educational programs and tours.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain and various areas of the property.
  • Ability to lift and carry educational materials and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds as needed.
