Description

Purpose:

The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all ready-mix concrete plants, precast equipment, and related plant structures. This role requires expertise in preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. The technician also serves as a coach and resource to plant managers, promoting safety and operational excellence.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain full compliance with all safety and environmental policies and procedures, ensuring both personal and team adherence.
  • Consistently use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Address safety-related issues immediately with supervisor or plant managers.
  • Complete all assigned safety training within required timeframes.
  • Perform routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance on wet batch and central batch ready-mix plants, precast equipment, and plant-related structures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Inspect plant machinery, recommend and perform necessary repairs.
  • Install, repair, and maintain heavy industrial process equipment.
  • Conduct shaft alignments, coupling installations, and belt/chain adjustments.
  • Repair or replace rotating equipment such as fans, compressors, and material handling systems.
  • Fabricate, weld, and modify parts to restore equipment to service.
  • Safely rig, lift, and handle heavy equipment during installations or repairs.
  • Proactively schedule plant maintenance and preventative maintenance repairs.
  • Create weekly schedules designed to minimize drive time while ensuring 100% completion of PMs and repairs.
  • Perform predictive maintenance on motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, bearings, and other critical systems.
  • Operate equipment including boom lifts, cranes, forklifts, and other mobile machinery.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics.
  • Use precision measuring tools to dismantle, align, and reassemble machinery components.
  • Respond to urgent calls outside of normal business hours.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and document all work in logs.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs with plant managers to provide ongoing maintenance training.
  • Coach plant managers on plant maintenance requirements.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience with heavy process machinery (cement industry preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industrial mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, environmental, and safety regulations related to plant operations.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting complex plant equipment and systems.
  • Proficient in welding, fabrication, and precision alignment techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Effective communication and coaching skills to work with individuals from all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid Driver’s License in state of residence.
  • Must be able to work varying work shifts with varying start and stop times.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently and 75+ lbs. occasionally with assistance.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, bending, climbing, and working in various physical positions.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, dust).
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces as required.
  • Manual dexterity to operate tools, precision instruments, and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to operate and safely maneuver forklifts, cranes, boom lifts, and other mobile equipment.
  • Willingness to respond to maintenance needs outside of regular business hours.
  • Ability to travel overnight 50%.
