Job Summary:
Responsible for meeting departmental safety, quality, costs, and delivery goals. Objectives met through training, motivating and managing employees in a team oriented production environment where Lean Manufacturing Principles, 8D’s, and continuous improvement are the norm. Work involves a thorough understanding of plant operations, company policies, practices, and procedures and the ability to resolve conflicts/issues through collaborative team efforts.
Essential Functions:
  • Lead all personnel within Paint & Finish across all shifts.
  • Maintain full disciplinary responsibility, including coaching, documentation, and corrective actions.
  • Set clear expectations and hold team members and Team Leads accountable for performance and behavior.
  • Ensure proper shift-to-shift communication and alignment.
  • Enforce all safety standards, PPE requirements, and environmental regulations.
  • Drive a proactive safety culture through presence, audits, and immediate correction of unsafe behaviors.
  • Ensure safe handling of chemicals, coatings, and equipment.
  • Own daily operations of Paint & Finish, including offload, finishing processes, and packaging.
  • Ensure production targets are met in terms of output, efficiency, and schedule adherence.
  • Coordinate staffing and resources across shifts to maintain flow and avoid bottlenecks.
  • Escalate and remove constraints impacting production.
  • Ensure all products meet internal and customer quality standards.
  • Drive containment and corrective actions for any quality deviations.
  • Ensure proper staffing, training, and skill coverage across all shifts.
  • Drive productivity by eliminating idle time and ensuring effective use of labor.
  • Support development of Team Leads and operators through coaching and training validation.
  • Promote accountability and ownership at all levels.
  • Partner with Quality to maintain process control and compliance.
  • Identify and eliminate waste in processes, layout, and workflows.
  • Support and lead improvement initiatives related to efficiency, labor absorption, and throughput.
  • Ensure TPM, 5S, and standard work are sustained.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Paint & Finish operations.
  • Coordinate with upstream and downstream areas to ensure smooth material flow.
  • Communicate performance, issues, and priorities clearly to leadership and the team.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Supervisor in a manufacturing environment
Specific Skills:
  • Must be familiar with IATF 16949 and/or ISO14001 requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office computer software applications
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization both oral and written
  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to train motivate and lead employees
  • Must be able to work any shifts and/or flexible hours
  • High level of energy and enthusiasm
  • Strong desire to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Proven Supervision capabilities
  • Experience with high volume automotive supply requirements
  • Familiar with Tier I and/or Tier II automotive supplier specifications
  • SAP R/3 enterprise system
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to walk/move about a 500,000 sq ft manufacturing facility: 100% of the time
  • Must be able to stand/walk/move about specific work area: 90% of the time
  • Must be able to bend/reach/twist/stoop: 70% of the time
  • Must be able to lift up to 40lbs on a frequent basis: 40% of the time
  • Must be able to lift over 40lbs on an infrequent basis: 15% of the time
  • Must be able to sit at a work station: 0% of the time
  • Must be able to work and operate a computer terminal: 80% of the time
  • Vision is required to analyze and process work; and to work on computer terminal/machine centers, etc.
  • Hearing is essential for safety reasons; and to communicate with employees, supervisors, managers, vendors, suppliers and customers via conversation, group meetings, and/or phone conferences
  • Must be able to wear a painting suit and/or respirator
  • Must be able to work with paints/solvents/cleaners
  • Must be able to work any shift as required including overtime as needed
