Job Summary:
Manages the human and physical resources in the assembly/production of drive shafts. Makes continuous improvement in production operations to improve quality, productivity and reduce costs/cycle times. Meets the expectations of our customers in manufacturing, part quality, and schedules. This position will assume leadership responsibility for the production, manufacturing engineering, and maintenance functions on multiple shifts. The initial focus will be on start-up activities including facility/staffing readiness and installation/qualification of machinery.
Essential Functions:
  • Provide progressive leadership and direction to large groups of employees
  • Coordinates production activities with procurement, logistics, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment
  • Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine root causes of problems
  • Develop manufacturing processes, flow, and production layouts
  • Development of work methods and standards
  • Development and maintenance of Mfg. Control Plans
  • Coordinate preventative and breakdown maintenance activities for plant equipment
  • Responsible for machine, tool & fixture design
  • Facility maintenance and plant layout
  • Establish and maintain certification requirements for appropriate machinery
  • Keeps management team informed of progress, developments and pending problems
  • Interprets company policies to workforce and enforces safety regulations
  • Implements lean manufacturing practices such as 5S, Kanban, poka-yoke, visual management, 1-piece flow, etc.
  • Prepares staff/departmental budgets and spending forecasts
  • Works together with Quality Assurance to obtain ISO/TS 16949 and other quality requirements
  • Works with cross functional group to develop processes, flow, and layouts
  • Complies with state and local regulations related to job function
  • Develops goals/objectives and defines metrics to measure performance to the goal
  • Established yearly targets and KPI’s for department. Maintains regular reporting structure for targets and goals to be tracked and communicated.
  • All employees are responsible for having an awareness and understanding of Rotorion North America’s commitment to ISO 14001
  • Management of Rotorion North America is responsible for the implementation and communication of environmental and accident prevention regulations and legislation
  • Additionally the Operations Manager is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the environmental and safety relevant equipment
Additional Responsibilities:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 5-7 years manufacturing experience
Experience:
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts and experience implementing same
  • Prior managerial/supervisory experience
  • Prior experience in a quality assurance function
Specific Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and writing)
  • Ability and willingness to travel (including international)
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams
  • Must be available to work all shifts and/or flexible hours
  • High level of interpersonal skills
Desired – Education/Skills/Experience:
  • German language skills (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Knowledge of automotive driveline components
  • Familiar with friction welding, balancing, and paint processes
  • Familiarity with SAP R/3 enterprise system
  • Prior experience with an automotive supplier
  • Prior experience with a start-up operation
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to walk/move about a 125,000 sq ft manufacturing facility: 90% of the time
  • Must be able to stand/walk/move about specific work area: 75% of the time
  • Must be able to bend/reach/twist/stoop: 40% of the time
  • Must be able to lift up to 30lbs on a frequent basis: 30% of the time
  • Must be able to lift over 30lbs on an infrequent basis: 10% of the time
  • Must be able to push/pull materials using motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment on an infrequent basis: 20% of the time
  • Must be able to sit at a work station: 80% of the time
  • Must be able to work and operate a computer terminal: 80% of the time
  • Vision is required to analyze and process work; and to work on computer terminal/machine centers, etc.
  • Hearing is essential for safety reasons; and to communicate with employees, supervisors, managers, vendors, suppliers and customers via conversation, group meetings, and/or phone conferences
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required
