Job Summary:
The Gauge Lab Technician is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Gauge Lab under the supervision of the Laboratory Services Group Leader. The Gauge Lab Technician will utilize the gauge recall software (Engage) to ensure gauges are calibrated as required. The Gauge Lab Technician will also ensure the accuracy and repeatability of gauges by performing and facilitating the performance of gauge calibrations, repairs and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
Essential Functions:

  1. Assist in maintaining the safety standards for all operations in assigned work areas.
  2. Coordinate the gauge calibration and MSA systems using Engage to ensure that gauges are calibrated and MSA studies are performed in accordance with applicable requirements.
  3. Coordinate external gauge calibrations with calibration service providers to ensure that gauges are calibrated in accordance with applicable requirements and on time.
  4. Utilize calibration procedures and Metrology Laboratory equipment (CMM, height gauge, contour system, etc.) to perform internal gauge calibrations and verifications to ensure conformance with applicable requirements.
  5. Utilize MSA procedures and knowledge of gauging equipment to participate in MSA studies.
  6. Maintain records of gauge calibration and MSA activities, in both electronic and hardcopy form, and ensure records can be easily retrieved as necessary.
  7. Ensure the availability of calibrated handheld gauges by maintaining a gauge inventory to minimize disruptions to manufacturing operations.
  8. Assist in the development of calibration work instructions to enable internal calibrations.
  9. Support the Metrology Laboratory by using laboratory equipment and gauges to perform various dimensional measurements as necessary to minimize disruption to manufacturing operations.
  10. Use SAP to create purchase requisitions for supplies for the Laboratory Services Group and controlled gauges and calibrations as needed to support all departments.
  11. Generate internal calibration reports to document internal gauge calibrations.
  12. Review certificates of calibration from calibration service providers to ensure conformance with applicable requirements.
  13. Effectively communicate with personnel at all levels, including written and verbal communications, to coordinate the collection and replacement gauges due for calibration or repair.
  14. Assist with Laboratory Services Group administrative functions by creating new jobs, reviewing test reports and participating in internal and external quality audits.
  15. Perform laboratory housekeeping activities to ensure compliance with 5S requirements.
  16. All employees are responsible for having an awareness and understanding of IFA’s commitment to IATF 16949 and ISO 14001.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.
Specific Skills:
  1. Working knowledge of gauge calibration, MSA methods and practices, and knowledge of the AIAG MSA handbook.
  2. Working knowledge of metrology laboratory equipment including CMM, contour measurement system and height gauge.
  3. Working knowledge of metrology measurement methods and practices.
  4. Demonstrated GD&T ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  5. Basic knowledge of measurement uncertainty.
  6. Working knowledge of metric and English units of measure.
  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Ability to communicate and work with cross-functional teams.
  9. Apply existing knowledge of work processes and procedures in analyzing data and determining solutions and/or actions.
  10. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and carry out work activities while supporting internal and external customers.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopies, filling cabinets and fax machines. This job will also be exposed to manufacturing environment, such as production lines, power industrial trucks, and/or other manufacturing machines.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  1. Must be able to walk/move about a 200,000 sq ft manufacturing facility: 100% of the time
  2. Must be able to stand/walk/move about specific work area: 90% of the time
  3. Must be able to bend/reach/twist/stoop: 70% of the time
  4. Must be able to lift 40lbs on a frequent basis: 40% of the time
  5. Must be able to sit at a work station: 50% of the time
  6. Must be able to work and operate a computer terminal: 80% of the time
  7. Vision is required to analyze and process work; and to work on computer terminal/machine centers, etc.
  8. Hearing is essential for safety reasons; and to communicate with employees, supervisors, managers, vendors, suppliers and customers via conversation, group meetings, and/or phone conferences.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
This is a full time position. Days and hours of work are based on individual shifts. Facility operates on three shifts of eight hours each. This role requires a certain level of working hours flexibility to ensure customer responsiveness.
Travel
No travel is required for this position.
Required Education and Experience
1. Associate’s degree in a related technical field with three years of related experience in a manufacturing environment or a combination of education coupled with five years of relevant experience.
2. Proven working experience of lean Manufacturing concepts.
3. Proven experience working with SAP/ERP system and respective quality management modules.
4. Proficiency with MS office suite.
5. Basic Knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 14001.
Preferred Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Quality Systems, Industrial Engineering, or other Technical field
2. Product knowledge and familiarity
3. Automotive manufacturing experience as a Tier 1 supplier
4. Experience with IATF / ISO standards and procedures
