JOB SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVES

A Construction Technician I is responsible for all aspects of the construction/maintenance of outside aerial and buried cable facilities and/or subscriber premises. Installation and maintenance of underground facilities or subscriber premises, which can include copper cable, fiber optic cable and conduit. Installation and maintenance in both new and in restoration efforts, using plowing and digging equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Promoting safety consciousness and adherence to OSHA, Utility, Federal, State, and Local safety requirements during placement.
• Prepare the job site and excavation equipment so that outside aerial and buried cable can be installed or removed safely and efficiently.
• Dig in, backfill, set poles, and perform cleanup for all structures based on design documentation.
• Installs and removes aerial cable, including installation of messenger strands, and transfer cable and equipment from old to new poles.
• Installs protectors and demarcation devices.
• Performing pre-operational checks of equipment, as well as participating in repairs and maintenance of equipment.
• Other duties as directed by management.

REQUIREMENTS

· High School diploma or GED

· Valid South Carolina Driver’s License – driving to and from worksites required.

· Experience with using hand tools and construction equipment preferred.

· One (1) year of relevant experience preferred.

· Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment.

· Basic electrical skills

· Must be able to follow and understand established standards such as Rural Utility Services (RUS) practices.

· CDL License and working knowledge of the telecommunications industry are a plus.
