Description

The Production Control Technician is a pivotal role in driving efficiency and quality in the manufacturing of boats at Freeman Boatworks. This position oversees production schedules, monitors progress, manages resources, and ensures alignment with goals for delivery, quality, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Establish and manage digital and physical project folders, including build details, special work instructions, QC checklists, material BOMs, and schedules.
  • Develop and execute purchasing plans, managing budgets and timelines for non-standard items to avoid delays.
  • Lead SOP kick-off meetings to communicate build requirements with sales and production teams.
  • Provide daily updates on status and KPIs to sales and ownership.
  • Conduct final reviews of milestone deliverables and budgets, using findings to improve processes.
  • Address project concerns and escalate non-standard issues as needed.

Production Oversight

  • Create and manage detailed daily schedules for all job centers and processes, meeting with department leads each morning and before the end of business.
  • Collaborate with production leads to set efficiency targets and allocate capacity based on constraints to meet deadlines.
  • Monitor daily production progress, WIP inventory, and generate part labels at project kickoff.
  • Hold teams accountable for adherence to 5S principles, safety, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Support the development and refinement of production control systems.
  • Transition initial material handling duties to a dedicated team member once systems are in place.

Inventory and Resource Management

  • Oversee raw materials, components, and finished goods inventories to ensure availability.
  • Collaborate with procurement to manage stock levels, track budgets versus actual BOMs, and minimize shortages.

Quality Control

  • Partner with QC teams to ensure adherence to specifications and address non-standard build requirements.
  • Identify and report defects or issues to management for resolution.
  • Maintain compliance with industry regulations and standards.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of production activities and schedules.
  • Update project management tools (e.g., Monday platform) with daily progress.
  • Generate and present reports on production status, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.

Continuous Improvement

  • Address production bottlenecks and inefficiencies by collaborating with teams to find solutions.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in manufacturing, industrial engineering, or related field is a plus but not required.

Experience:

  • 2–3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in boat manufacturing or similar industries.
  • Familiarity with production control, inventory management, and scheduling processes.

Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and hands-on execution.
  • Ability to grow within the organization, build teams, and assume additional responsibilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, temperature changes, fiberglass dust, and industrial equipment.
