Job Summary:
Plan, coordinate, review and improve manufacturing processes for an assigned production area to assure efficient manufacturing operations, applying technical knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Review and evaluate or develop manufacturing processes to include run-times and bill-of-material, and initiate actions for adaptations or modifications to machinery or equipment for efficient production conditions.
- Review, evaluate and develop in processes to methods and determine sequence of operations and procedures to reduce time cycles, simplify tasks and reduce costs.
- Evaluate and monitor the performance of production tools, dies, fixtures and equipment and provide specifics for adaptations or modifications to machinery for optimum production conditions for assigned production areas.
- Develop, evaluate and specify tools, jigs and fixtures for the manufacture of devises, components, assemblies, systems, etc. assuring optimum operations for assigned production areas.
- Recommend test parameters, procedures and equipment and coordinate with Test and Quality Engineering departments.
- Maintain liaison and coordinate efforts with other engineering and interfacing departments and vendors to assure efficient, cost effective production operations.
- Review, evaluate and develop complete and accurate instructions and specifications for procedures and methods and assist manufacturing in transition from development into production for assigned areas.
- Provide specialized technical assistance and guidance to manufacturing efforts to resolve design or mechanical problems.
- Prepare accurate parts lists and bills of materials.
- Keep abreast of changing technologies to apply creative solutions to problems.
- May develop programs and supporting data packages for computer-based numerical controlled production equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience & License or Certification:
A Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and 2-4 years related experience to be proficient in the above areas or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills and Abilities:
- Manufacturing Processes: Understanding different production methods, their strengths and weaknesses, and how to choose the right one for a particular product.
- Materials Science: Knowledge of different materials, their properties, and how they behave during manufacturing processes.
- Quality Control: Ability to implement and monitor quality control procedures to ensure products meet specifications.
- Process Improvement: Familiarity with methodologies like Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen to optimize production lines and reduce waste.
- Software Proficiency: This includes a strong foundation in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for product design and potentially Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) for programming machinery.
- Problem-Solving: Identifying and resolving issues that arise on the production line, ensuring smooth operation.
- Communication: Clearly conveying technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Teamwork: Collaborating effectively with other engineers, technicians, and production staff.
- Project Management: Ability to plan, organize, and execute manufacturing projects on time and within budget.
- Analytical Skills: Analyzing data to identify trends, diagnose problems, and make data-driven decisions.
- Time Management: Effectively managing their own time and potentially the time of others involved in projects.
