Job Description
This position will work on the ROEM 155mm Howitzer program primarily, and help as needed in other areas.
Looking for an engineer with experience in a prototype/low volume environment, with the ability to develop processes and procedures as the project moves forward. This is a new facility, with room to develop these procedures and grow professionally. There will be a strong emphasis on assembly fixture/jig design (lifting jigs, assembly aids, etc.) and test procedures design for the first year.
- Review and evaluate or develop manufacturing processes to include run-times and bill-of-material, and initiate actions for adaptations or modifications to machinery or equipment for efficient production conditions.
- Develop manufacturing jigs, tools, fixtures, and methods to meet engineering specifications and provide efficient manufacturing.
- Establish and coordinate priority of tools, jigs and fixtures for optimum manufacture of devices, components and less complex products.
- Determine appropriate assembly processes and sequences and ensure adequacy of manufacturing documentation packages.
- Train operators and technicians on processes and procedures developed by engineering (assembly, test, etc.)
- Prepare project requests detailing proposed engineering work costs, parts lists, bills of material and product timetable. Monitor project costs assuring adherence to budget.
- Support manufacturing and production processes in resolving design and production problems and in transition from development into production operations.
- Review and evaluate product designs and engineering prototypes and recommend design changes to assure optimum producibility.
- Provide direction for methods to maximize overall efficiency of assembly operation.
- Maintain liaison with vendors and/or interfacing departments to provide efficient resolution to producibility problems.
- Work within ERP system to develop process flows, routing steps, etc.
- Create work cell layouts, including tooling, work areas, CAD floor layouts, etc.
- Help instruct and teach entry level manufacturing engineers
- Work with engineering technicians to help problem solve and complete prototypes
- Create and/or troubleshoot test procedures
- Create project schedules and lead integrated project teams on smaller level projects (cost savings projects, prototype schedule, etc.)
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires US citizenship status.
Qualifications
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (preferably mechanical, electrical, or systems) and 5+ years related experience to be proficient in the above areas or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Mechanical assembly experience
- Fixture and jig design experience in an assembly environment
- Proficiency in office technologies including Excel, PowerPoint and MS Word.
- Proficiency with continuous process improvement methodologies and tool.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Master’s Degree in Engineering, preferably mechanical or electrical, or management focused (i.e. MBA, engineering management, etc.)
- Lean/Six-Sigma green belt certified (or higher)
- Trained in RCCA procedures
- Electrical assembly experience (reading electrical schematics, electrical assembly processes such as soldering, cable manufacturing, etc.)
- Experience with DoD and government contract work
