Eaton’s AER HQ Headquarters division is currently seeking a Additive Manufacturing Engineering Specialist. This is a full time, onsite role based at our Aerospace manufacturing plant in Charleston, SC. Relocation benefits are available from within the United States!
Eaton’s Charleston, SC location has long served as a Machining Center of Excellence for our Aerospace Group, with just under 200 employees, manufacturing hydraulic pumps for commercial and military aircraft.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $113000 - $165000 a year.

What you’ll do:
Additive manufacturing (AM) is an exciting new technology that offers substantial benefits to the Aerospace industry. Eaton Aerospace has leveraged the technology to create superior products and capture profitable growth for the businesses reaching $2.7BLOP in awarded business and multiple Government funded projects. This has resulted in significant program growth since the inception of additive mfg. in the Eaton Aerospace business with 36 awarded parts and 100+ active programs in DDAMC in Charleston SC - 450% growth since 2021. The number of awarded flight hardware metal component is driving the need for more expert roles in the areas of Operation and Value Stream Management, manufacturing, process engineering and new product implementation in production to help set up a for the future and avoid issues we run into Today's operaiton in other processes. This new position will act as the AM expert, for the Digital Design and Additive manufacturing center in Charleston, S.C. responsible for consulting with Aerospace engineers and AM specialist to design the parts and the AM process to manufacture. The candidate will create design guidelines, design AM parts and supports, adjust process parameters, operate the printers and all supporting equipment, write procedures and work instructions, implement continuous improvements projects to optimize the process for cost and quality. In addition, the role will work with the engineering community to develop proposals on proposed projects including defining the cost of the end part, required non-recurring AM engineering costs for development and timing. Also, this person will support the development of the AM process and the transition to production. He/She will oversee some of the day to day operation, maintain a quality system in the lab, ensure safe work practices are maintained and drive overal maturation within the facility.
Job Responsibilities:
• Technical expert for AM LPBF and EBPBF technology in Aerospace
• Set up additive build files, post processing, part inspection, troubleshooting and process documentation
• Design AM Parts and Supports - 3D modeling
• Introduce new Additive products in production utilizing the New Product Introduction process in accordance with established standards and best practices driving a right the first-time philosophy.
Troubleshoot and lead AM Machines & products RCCAs
Experienced in running AM metal machines specially EOS LPBF and EB Colibrium ones
Adjust and optimize AM parameters where needed
• Present and Lead AM product MRL reviews with Customers
• Act as a Design and Process mentor to other engineers
• Review and recommend changes for AM processes; WI and specs
• Manage Material and process characterization work for new AM processes
• Create, manage and execute on new Technology AM and Digital Design projects
• Attend and Support Tech reviews for AM products
• MRL owner for many AM projects across the 4 divisions
• Lead AM Continuous Improvement for LPBF and EB Processes
• Support new machines Implementation
• Support Safety; 5S; Maintenance and Calibration of AM Machines
• Researches, justifies, and implements new manufacturing processes
• Supports development and execution of overall manufacturing strategy that supports the AM Team business strategy to meet cost, quality and delivery.
• Support and Own Government funded projects with Collaboration with ERL
• Develops and implements effective mistake proofing as part of continuous improvement and root cause/corrective action.
• Collaborate with design, other additive engineers, and technicians to develop and optimize additive manufacturing designs and processes
• Participates as an active member in Rapid Improvement Events (RIE) to eliminate waste and drive standardization.
• Create and maintain the AM process Value Stream
• Develop in process monitoring and analyze data from AM Machines
• Programming Skills Preferred
Qualifications:
Basic (Required) Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Material Science
- 5+ years experience in Metal Additive Manufacturing
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future
- This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Preferred:
- Aerospace product experience
- Experience in EOSprint, Magics & Simufact
- Experienced in the design of AM Parts and Build Setup
- Proficient in the interpretation and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
- CAD Modeling experience: Solid works/AutoCAD
- Programming and simulation Skills
- Material testing
- Masters or Higher education preferred
