Description

The purpose of the class is to supervise a crew of groundskeepers in the maintenance of grounds and grounds construction activities and to perform related work as required. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.

Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises two or more full-time employees, or their equivalent, on a regular basis.
  • Plans, projects and schedules grounds crew activities over short and long-range periods and assigns priorities for their completion.
  • Reviews projects for structural and operational safety.
  • Monitors all activities with regard to progress and cost; advise supervisor of significant variations as required.
  • Repairs mechanical and electrical locks and locking systems.
  • Operates related light, medium and heavy equipment when needed.
  • Moves furniture as necessary.
  • May perform grounds maintenance, custodial and landscaping related duties.
  • Drives and inspects grounds on assigned areas.
  • Ensures the grounds are maintained and that the grass is kept to an appropriate level.
  • Maintains the outside lawn equipment to ensure it is ready to go when needed.
  • Reviews who takes off work or calls out of work; makes sure the payroll is turned in with correct information.
  • Makes recommendations regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination of employees.
  • Provides instruction and leadership of maintenance workers and inmate workers as assigned; supervises the general maintenance and grounds as assigned.
  • Looks up information on parts needed to be ordered for repairs and passes information to appropriate party for ordering.
  • Maintains assigned tools and equipment.
  • Coordinates with supervisor and receives guidance as to desired standards or quality of service provided.
  • Ensures subordinates compliance with established safety guidelines.
  • Maintains accurate records on maintenance/repair work completed.
  • Performs all work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and standards of safety and quality; ensures the timely completion of all assignments.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Four years of grounds maintenance related work experience which includes one year of lead experience;
or Associate’s Degree in Horticulture or related field and two years of grounds maintenance related work experience which includes one year of lead experience;
or Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.

Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
