Description

The purpose of the class is to perform skilled and semi-skilled carpentry and minor building construction and renovation work; to assist with the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic systems and equipment; and to perform related work as required. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed; develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.

Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Supervises crew. Supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems; recommending and approving employee discipline; and recommending discharge as appropriate.
• Performs work or assigns and supervises work in terms of: building and equipment maintenance and repair; landscape maintenance.
• Performs general carpentry work for building construction/renovation as required.
• Repairs roofs.
• Assists with the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical components and equipment
including, but not limited to, general electrical wiring, electrical outlets, switches, breakers, light
fixtures, ballasts, circuits, security lights, ground lights, etc.; changes light bulbs as needed.
• Repairs mechanical and electrical locks and locking systems.
• Assists with the installation, maintenance and repair of various plumbing systems and
equipment.
• Assists in maintaining and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems as well as equipment;
changes air filters.
• Provides instruction and leadership of maintenance workers and inmate workers as assigned.
• Maintains assigned tools and equipment.
• Maintains accurate records on maintenance/repair work completed.
• Maintains attendance records for payroll timekeeping purposes for state trustees.
• Performs all work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and
standards of safety and quality; ensures the timely completion of all assignments.
• Runs heavy equipment as needed.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED supplemented by education in carpentry, building construction, electrical, other building trade(s) or a closely related field.
Requires at least two (2) years of related work experience.

Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid state driver's license.
Electrical maintenance and repair certification desired.
