JOB PURPOSE

The Firearm Components Polishing Technician is responsible for the precision hand and machine polishing of feed ramps and chambers on gun barrels within a high-volume firearms manufacturing environment. This role directly impacts weapon reliability, feeding performance, and finish quality. The technician must consistently produce components that meet strict dimensional and surface finish tolerances while adhering to all safety and compliance requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Polishing & Surface Finishing

  • Polish feed ramps and chamber interiors on pistol, barrels using hand tools, rotary tools, and polishing equipment.
  • Achieve specified surface finish requirements (visual standards) on all processed components.
  • Use polishing compounds, stones, wheels, and abrasive media appropriate to the material and finish specification.
  • Polish to match approved reference samples or engineering drawings.

Quality & Inspection

  • Inspect polished surfaces using bore scopes, gauges, and visual inspection under proper lighting.
  • Identify and segregate non-conforming parts, complete appropriate documentation.

Equipment & Tools

  • Set up, operate, and perform basic maintenance on polishing machines, Dremel-style rotary tools, and bench grinders.
  • Select and change out polishing media, wheels, per job requirements.
  • Keep tools and workstations clean and organized, report equipment issues promptly.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and ATF compliance requirements.
  • Wear required PPE at all times: safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and respiratory protection as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and adhere to 5S standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in precision manufacturing, machining, or metal finishing environment
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions.
  • Experience using hand tools, rotary tools, and basic measuring instruments (calipers, bore gauges)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent quality over high-volume production runs.
  • Adhere to guidelines and procedures to ensure the safe handling, removal, and disposal of both hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident) per ITAR requirements.
  • Must pass a background check per federal firearms.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position operates in a manufacturing facility with moderate noise, metal dust, and exposure to lubricants and polishing compounds. All required PPE is provided. The facility is ATF-licensed and subject to periodic compliance inspections. Employees must understand and comply with all federal, state, and company regulations governing the manufacture of firearms.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift)
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills required for precision hand polishing.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. regularly.
  • Visual acuity sufficient for detailed inspection of small-bore surfaces
  • Tolerance for moderate to high noise levels in a manufacturing environment
