DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented CTP – 2 nd Shift Maintenance Technician to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our Cummins Inc. facility in Ladson, SC.

Additional Information

Position Summary:

As a Skilled Maintenance Technician Level 3, you will be responsible for ensuring that all mechanical and electrical systems are maintained to optimal performance standards. You will work to enhance the reliability of the equipment, resolve complex maintenance issues in a timely manner, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement. This role demands leadership, technical expertise, and collaboration with other departments to ensure smooth operations. You will be expected to handle troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, and assist in the development of best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Health, Safety, and Compliance:

  • Follow all HSE policies, procedures, and processes.

  • Maintain required certifications (e.g., LOTO – Lockout/Tagout, WAH – Working at Heights) and renew as needed.

  • Report hazards using T cards, hazard hunt forms, and Ace cards.

  • Own and resolve safety issues like oil and coolant leaks, documenting them in EOS reports to ensure closure.

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

  • Quickly troubleshoot downtime issues using existing guides; create new ones for unexpected downtime incidents.

  • Collaborate with CM/PM planners to implement and improve long-term solutions for equipment reliability.

  • Manage and escalate downtime per process, maintaining clear communication with cross-functional teams.

  • Support complex issue resolution with detailed documentation (images, part numbers, system info) to assist with reassembly and future troubleshooting.

Housekeeping & 5S:

  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, ensuring 5S practices are followed within the shop floor, maintenance areas, and workstations.

  • Keep work areas clean and organized after each task.

  • Maintain a clutter-free toolbox aligned with visual organization standards.

Project Management & Continuous Improvement:

  • Take on and close out delegated projects, both within and outside of core workstreams, using common improvement tools such as A3's and Kaizen.

  • Provide guidance and support to team members working on projects, ensuring a collaborative and productive work environment.

  • Engage in cross-functional initiatives, modeling a positive approach to team and department growth.

  • Contribute to process improvements, offering feedback to enhance PM and CM activities.

  • Assist in developing new procedures to minimize equipment downtime.

Training & Development:

  • Engage in all required training and certification programs and ensure completion and pass-off of all training classes attended.

  • Assist in the development of training programs by providing feedback and suggestions for improvement.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to self-development and increase technical expertise through training and hands-on experience.

Communication & Reporting:

  • Ensure all completed tasks are reported accurately and timely using the STAR method.

  • Provide feedback on completed tasks, ensuring proper documentation and communication of lessons learned.

  • Actively participate in team meetings, providing feedback, and contributing to discussions aimed at improving team performance.

  • Communicate effectively with peers, shift leads, and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and minimal downtime.

KPI Management & Performance Metrics:

  • Monitor and work towards meeting individual and department KPIs, including MTTR (Mean Time to Repair), MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), PM completion, and utilization.

  • Focus on minimizing downtime and ensure all maintenance activities are aligned with the department's overall goals and objectives.

Collaboration with Team Leads & Cross-Functional Teams:

  • Ensure equipment and tools are available for production and maintenance needs, proactively addressing any gaps or issues.

  • Collaborate with team leads to resolve ongoing downtime instances and ensure they are properly supported during high-priority incidents.

Escalation Process:

  • Follow the escalation process for any major downtime incidents and communicate required support to the on-shift team lead.

  • Ensure escalation is done in a timely manner to avoid prolonged downtime.

  • Provide timely updates on project statuses and downtime resolutions.

  • Ensure that the escalation process is always followed.

Ownership & Accountability:

  • Take ownership of all tasks assigned, ensuring they are completed within the day, and submitted in your EOS report with positive intent.

  • Lead by example and encourage a proactive attitude towards problem-solving and resolution within the team.

  • Demonstrate awareness of the impact your work has on the team and department's reputation, ensuring your conduct sets a standard for new employees to aspire toward.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Technical certification or associate degree in industrial maintenance, electrical systems, or mechanical engineering preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in a high-volume manufacturing or CTP environment.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Strong background in electrical systems, PLC troubleshooting, and mechanical repair.

  • Proficiency in reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.

  • History of with LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), WAH (Working at Heights), and other relevant HSE certifications.

  • Forklift, aerial lift, or other equipment certifications are a plus.

  • Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated leadership and ownership mindset.
