| Job Purpose | The Structured Cabling Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for the lifecycle of the College’s inside and outside plant structured cabling infrastructure. The position serves as the technical owner for campus low-voltage and fiber optic cabling standards, manages service vendors and contractors responsible for installation and maintenance, maintains infrastructure documentation, and develops long-term infrastructure plans that support institutional technology needs. The position serves as the primary IT liaison with Facilities Management on operational issues and provides technical review and standards guidance for capital construction and renovation projects managed through the IT’s Project Management Office (PMO). |
| Minimum Requirements | High school diploma with experience in cabling infrastructure. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required work experience. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply. |
| Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Knowledge of structured cabling systems including copper, fiber optic, inside plant (ISP), and outside plant (OSP) infrastructure. Knowledge of BICSI, ANSI/TIA-568, ANSI/TIA-606, ANSI/TIA-607, and applicable NEC standards. Understanding of fiber optic testing, certification, splicing, pathway design, and equipment room design. Ability to develop and maintain campus cabling standards, review construction drawings, interpret specifications, and manage vendor performance. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate infrastructure documentation and collaborate effectively with Facilities Management, contractors, and campus stakeholders. Understanding of cabling system lifecycle, including maintenance, upgrades, and end-of-life replacement planning. |
| Additional Comments Regarding Position | Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and be on call 24/7 for minimal support while carrying a cell phone. Occasional overnight travel for professional development may be required. Must climb into network locations (roofs, attics, basements), carry equipment, and drive on campus and to remote sites. |

| Activity | Infrastructure Standards, Lifecycle Administration, and Planning: Serves as the technical owner for the College’s structured cabling infrastructure standards governing copper, fiber optic, inside plant, and outside plant systems. Develops, publishes, maintains, and periodically updates institutional standards for telecommunications rooms, pathways, conduit systems, structured cabling design, installation, testing, labeling, documentation, and related infrastructure while reviewing proposed designs and installations for compliance with College standards and applicable industry best practices. Conducts operational inspections and infrastructure assessments to identify deficiencies, recommends remediation and replacement strategies, and develops and maintains a multi-year cabling infrastructure replacement and modernization roadmap that supports long-term lifecycle planning, capacity management, and institutional growth. Performs environmental scanning to evaluate emerging technologies, installation methods, products, and industry best practices to ensure the College’s structured cabling infrastructure remains aligned with evolving technologies and institutional requirements. Assists Information Technology leadership in developing annual operating and capital budget recommendations for structured cabling infrastructure. |

| Activity | Documentation and Compliance: Maintains and periodically audits comprehensive documentation for the College’s structured cabling infrastructure, including fiber and copper plant records, pathway documentation, telecommunications room layouts, cable labeling, equipment inventories, warranty information, lifecycle records, and as-built drawings. Ensures infrastructure documentation is updated following maintenance activities, renovations, and capital projects to maintain an accurate record of the College’s telecommunications infrastructure. Supports disaster recovery and operational planning through the maintenance of accurate infrastructure documentation and ensures compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, institutional policies, and industry standards, including BICSI and ANSI/TIA standards. |

Reviews construction drawings, submittals, shop drawings, and specifications, participates in commissioning and acceptance testing of completed infrastructure installations, coordinates infrastructure cutovers with operational IT teams and vendors, and collaborates with College departments to identify operational infrastructure needs and incorporate them into future infrastructure planning. |
