Minimum Requirements
Minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, workforce development, or related field
  • at least three years of experience in academic advising, career services, adult learning, or workforce development
  • knowledge of student development theories, advising practices, and workforce/career readiness trends
  • strong communication, interpersonal, and project management skills
Preferred requirements:
  • Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, or related field
  • experience working with adult learners, transfer students, or nontraditional populations
  • familiarity with Salesforce, Banner, DegreeWorks, Handshake, LinkedIn, and D2L
  • experience teaching workshops and/or facilitating group learning

Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • understanding of adult learning principles and student development among diverse learner populations
  • ability to deliver academic advising in one-on-one and group settings (in-person and online)
  • understanding and compliance with FERPA requirements
  • strong career counseling skills, including resume/LinkedIn development, interview prep, and job search strategies
  • understanding of recruitment strategies for transfer and adult learners
  • competence in data-informed decision-making and use of admissions/advising/career technology
Additional Comments Regarding Position
The Academic and Workforce Success Advisor supports adult learners, transfer students, and EPIC Scholars in the Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) program. This position combines recruitment, academic advising, career coaching, and workforce engagement to ensure student success from recruitment through graduation and beyond.

This position is on-campus, with some evening and weekend work required. Some travel in SC may be required.

  • provide proactive advising for BPS majors, departmental minors, and certificate students
  • utilize appropriate advising methods based on the individual student’s needs
  • support students in selecting concentrations, minors, and certificates
  • develop academic progression plans, and teach students how to register for courses
  • assist with onboarding, orientation, and transition support for adult learners and transfer students
  • monitor student progress, provide outreach to at-risk students, and connect learners with academic and personal support resources

  • provide unofficial transcript evaluations for prospective students to utilize in their decision-making process

  • develop career resources, handouts, and online tools tailored to adult learners and transfer students
  • offer recommendations to the CPE team based on the latest data and trends in workforce readiness
