Visiting Assistant/Associate Professor of Real Estate and Interim Director of the Carter Real Estate Center (9-Month Appointment)

The Department of Finance in the School of Business at the College of Charleston invites applications for a Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor of Real Estate, beginning August 2026. This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track appointment that will temporarily serve as Director of the Carter Real Estate Center, with the potential for renewal or longer-term continuation in a visiting faculty capacity.

This position is designed to provide immediate leadership and instructional support for the Commercial Real Estate Finance program.

Position Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to both teaching and program leadership. Responsibilities include:

Teaching
  • Teaching a 3-3 course load (may vary based on administrative responsibilities), including courses such as: Real Estate Market Analysis, Real Estate Feasibility Analysis, Real Estate Finance or Investment
  • Supporting curriculum delivery within the Commercial Real Estate Finance major and Real Estate minor

Interim Director Responsibilities (Carter Real Estate Center)
  • Providing operational leadership for the Carter Real Estate Center
  • Engaging with real estate professionals, alumni, and advisory partners to support student opportunities
  • Assisting with program development, events, and industry outreach
  • Supporting student placement efforts and experiential learning initiatives
  • Coordinating with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to maintain program continuity

Service and Engagement
  • Advising and mentoring students interested in real estate careers
  • Participating in departmental and program-related service activities

Compensation
  • Base Salary: $80,000 (9-month appointment)
  • Administrative Stipend: Additional stipend provided while serving as Interim Director of the Carter Real Estate Center

Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned master’s or doctorate degree in Real Estate or Finance, or a closely related field from an accredited institution (ABD candidates nearing completion may be considered for a Visiting Assistant Professor appointment). Other degrees may also be acceptable if the candidate has significant industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience in real estate or finance at the undergraduate level
  • Professional experience in commercial real estate or a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to teach applied industry-relevant coursework
  • Experience engaging with industry partners, advisory boards, or student placement initiatives
  • Prior experience in program leadership, center coordination, or externally facing academic initiatives
