Associate Professor in the Education Doctorate

The School of Education at the College of Charleston is seeking applicants for a tenure-track experienced assistant or associate professor for a nine-month position, with the expectation of teaching summer courses for additional pay, beginning August 16, 2026. The Department of Teacher Education has recently launched a Doctor of Education (EdD) program in Learning and Inquiry in Practice. This faculty member will be expected to contribute significantly to the success of the new program by assisting in recruiting prospective students, advising matriculating students, and establishing the policies, infrastructure, and academic culture that strengthen doctoral education at the College.

Duties Include:

  • Advancing the EdD program by teaching courses related to improvement science, applied quantitative research and assessment, contemporary systems and change, grant writing, and program evaluation
  • Maintaining a scholarly research agenda, including publishing in peer-reviewed journals and partnering with doctoral students on publications and presentations
  • Advising and mentoring doctoral students by serving on dissertation committees as a chair or committee member
  • Building policies, systems, and a culture for doctoral learning at the institution
  • Providing service to the department, college, and other educational, professional, and public organizations
  • Serving the larger academic community by participating in professional associations at the local, state, regional, and national/international levels
Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must have:

  • An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or EdD) in education or a closely related field
  • Three years of demonstrated teaching excellence in graduate programs (doctoral programs, specifically)
  • Three to five years of experience in P-12, higher education, adult education, non-profit or community-based organizations
  • The ability to effectively design, develop, and deliver online instruction asynchronously
  • Demonstrated publishing of high-quality research, specifically related to practitioner, applied, and/or action research
  • Experience chairing and/or serving on dissertation committees
  • Exceptional written and oral presentation, communication, and collaboration skills, especially as it pertains to teaching and advising working professional adult learners
  • A commitment and ability to effectively engage, collaborate with, and lead colleagues, students, and teams from all backgrounds and perspectives within and outside of the College

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in quantitative research methods and analysis models used in applied settings such as schools, colleges, and community agencies
  • A high level of responsiveness and the ability to provide actionable, substantive, and timely feedback in 4- and 8-week online express courses
  • Experience teaching in or advising students from programs with a CPED philosophy (with an emphasis on improvement science principles)
  • Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners for doctoral program feedback and support
  • Online teaching proficiency within the Quality Matters framework
