Position Description | The Department of Studio Art at the College of Charleston invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in New Media, beginning August 2026. The successful candidate will have an MFA with a focus in New Media with the ability to teach in a secondary area, such as drawing or photography. They will have a demonstrated competency in technology-based and/or experimental media and an interest in growing new areas of study in the Studio Art Department. An ability to teach our general education art course and upper-level interdisciplinary courses is a plus. An interest in curriculum development and innovation in teaching is required. Preference will be given to applicants with three years of college teaching experience beyond a graduate assistantship. The successful candidate will be integral in shaping the future direction of the department. Strong leadership skills are preferred. Responsibilities: a full teaching load which will consist of some combination of introductory to advanced courses in new media, and a general education humanities art foundations course taught to undergraduate Studio Art majors and non-majors. The successful candidate will have a national exhibition record and an active, contemporary studio practice. One of 5 departments/programs in the School of the Arts, the Studio Art Department encourages creative productivity and close mentoring in 5 areas of study: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture. Founded in 1770, the College of Charleston is a nationally recognized public liberal arts and sciences university located on a scenic campus in historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina.
