Job Purpose
As a member of the Student Success Center team, the Academic Success and Global Studies Advisor serves as both a generalist and caseload-specific academic advisor. As a generalist, the individual serves as the primary contact for study abroad advising in the School of Business and collaborates with stakeholders to promote, increase, and diversify study abroad opportunities. As a caseload-specific advisor, the individual serves as the primary academic advisor for International Business students while maintaining the ability to discuss and advise any major or minor offered in the School of Business. Additionally, the individual partners with Global Business Resource Center leadership on administrative functions and collaborates with the College’s centralized Center for International Education on overall study abroad workflow and events. The Advisor must be knowledgeable of policies, procedures, and regulations related to international study, able to support faculty who wish to create and offer faculty-led program opportunities, and collaborative with academic advising colleagues on the overall workflow related to degree planning, progression, and intervention.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and relevant professional experience. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Ability to demonstrate a basic understanding of study abroad programs and university degree requirements; experience studying, living, and/or working abroad, or engagement in other relevant intercultural contexts.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
· Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and computer proficiency.
· Ability to plan ahead and manage multiple priorities and tasks.
· Critical thinking skills in resourceful problem-solving and propositional thinking.
· Understanding of FERPA regulations.
· Willingness to work occasional evenings and/or weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Previous experience working in student services.
· Experience advising and supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
· Familiar with higher education procedures and processes.
· Familiar with platforms such as Banner, Cognos, DegreeWorks, Microsoft Teams, Student Success Insights, and Via-TRM.
· Knowledge of the College of Charleston’s School of Business academic programs.
· Experience in preparing and presenting comprehensive reports and/or long-range plans and objectives is highly preferred.

GLOBAL STUDIES ADVISING:
· Advises students in the School of Business on global education opportunities that align with the students’ institutional and degree-specific requirements, personal interests, and financial considerations (among other factors).
· In partnership with the Registrar’s Office and School of Business academic departments, maintains and regularly updates a record of academic credit approvals for coursework abroad. Utilizes said inventory of pre-approved coursework to provide program recommendations to School of Business students and advise them on coursework options that satisfy various degree requirements.
· Collaborates frequently with the College’s Center for International Education to stay current on program opportunities, procedures, and deadlines.
· Maintains knowledge of all School of Business majors, minors, and concentrations, their various degree requirements, and any course prerequisite requirements.
· Effectively documents student support in respective platforms.

CASELOAD ACADEMIC ADVISING:
· Provides academic advising to prospective students, newly admitted first-year and transfer students, and continuing School of Business students through one-on-one advising, group advising, and special events. (This position particularly focuses on the advisement of International Business students.)
· Utilizing effective relationship development and advising technologies, helps students choose or reaffirm their School of Business major(s) and minor(s), understand the requirements for their programs of study, and develop a progression plan in the program.
· Assists students with course registration and applicable overrides/exceptions.
· Effectively documents student support in respective platforms. Provides appliable follow up.

STUDY ABROAD ADVOCACY:
· Collaborates with School of Business faculty and staff to identify and develop additional study abroad opportunities and ensure sufficient enrollment and quality maintenance. Offers recommendations for improvements as needed to ensure student retention.
· Creates marketing opportunities that promote study abroad within the School of Business, informing students how to integrate these opportunities into their academic plans.
· Participates in college-wide study abroad fairs, orientations, and information sessions and develops additional globally focused events within the School of Business.
