Position Description | The College of Charleston’s School of Education invites applicants for a full-time, visiting assistant professor faculty position in early childhood/elementary social studies to begin in January 2025 or August 2025. Visiting positions at the College of Charleston are issued on an annual basis. However, pending available funding and a positive review of performance, this appointment may be renewable for two additional years, for a total of three years. The ideal candidate would also have experience in literacy. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction, Literacy, Elementary/Early Childhood Education or a closely related field by January 8, 2025, knowledge of NCSS standards and a minimum of three years’ experience at the P-6 level. The successful candidate will prepare early childhood and elementary pre-service teachers in the area of social studies (i.e. focus on integration of history, geography and civics education with other areas of the curriculum). They may also teach literacy courses which could include reading methods, writing methods, foundations of literacy development, literacy assessment, Science of Reading, and field experiences. The successful candidate must also demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusivity in P-12 and higher education settings. This position carries a 4/4 teaching load. Preference will be given to candidates with 5 or more years experience teaching P-6 social studies and P-6 English language arts (ELA) in public schools. Apply online at https://jobs.cofc.edu/.
