Internal Title Assistant Professor of Health Services Administration & Management
Position Type Tenure-track
School/Area School of Health Sciences

Position Description
The College of Charleston invites qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to teach in the newly established Health Services Administration & Management (HSAM) Program. This Bachelor of Science degree program will be open to students starting with the 2024-25 academic year. The successful candidate will join an active faculty in the Department of Health and Human Performance within the newly formed and expanding School of Health Sciences. The department also offers undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science and Public Health. We currently have 20 full-time teacher-scholars that serve over 750 undergraduate majors. We are committed to preparing and equipping the next generation of health professionals and are seeking applicants who share our mission and want to engage with undergraduate students in and outside the classroom through dynamic teaching, professional advising, and research mentorship.

Founded in 1770, the College of Charleston is nationally recognized as a strong public liberal arts and sciences university that is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, and ranks among the nation’s top institutions for quality education, student life, and affordability. The student body numbers approximately 11,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs, delivering a small-college feel blended with the advantages and diversity of a mid-sized university. The College’s urban campus is embedded in the center of historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina, amongst a thriving community of world-class businesses, restaurants, and the local healthcare industry, while still only a 20-minute drive to three public beaches. You are invited to visit our websites to learn more about the College, School, and Department.

The required responsibilities of this position include 1) providing high-quality instruction for 3 course sections per semester in courses that align with HSAM, 2) maintaining an independent research agenda at the level of expectation for a tenure-track faculty member, 3) offering academic advising and professional mentoring for HSAM majors, 4) working collaboratively to advance the program and department and meet stated goals and objectives, 5) engaging in professional and college-wide service activities, and 6) committing to a liberal arts and sciences undergraduate education. There is the potential for additional and compensated program directorship responsibilities for activities related to student recruitment, curriculum and assessment, scheduling, and future program accreditation.

Applicants must possess an earned PhD degree in healthcare administration, public health, or closely related discipline from an accredited institution before the August 2024 start date. Applicants should show scholarly promise through authorship on professional presentations and peer-reviewed publications in relevant journals. Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate-level students with the promise for teaching excellence. We especially welcome individuals who teach using equitable and inclusive pedagogy with interests in the areas of data visualization, research methods, and healthcare systems in addition to other courses that match professional expertise. Preference will be given to those with a record of mentoring students through the research process within a higher education setting and with program administrative experience or skills.
