Summary
Reporting to the Director of Facility Services. Charleston Southern University has a vacancy for a full-time Maintenance Technician Level 1.
Work Performed
As a Maintenance Technician Level 1, you will play an essential role in supporting the maintenance and upkeep of our campus facilities to ensure a safe and functional environment for our community. Reporting to the Director of Facility Services or a designated supervisor, you will be responsible for assisting with a variety of maintenance tasks and providing support to more experienced technicians. Your primary duties and responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with routine maintenance tasks, such as inspections, cleaning, and lubrication of equipment and machinery.
- Performing minor repairs and adjustments to building systems, fixtures, and equipment under the guidance of more experienced technicians.
- Assisting with the installation and setup of new equipment, fixtures, and furnishings as needed.
- Conducting basic troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to identify and report issues to supervisors.
- Participating in training programs and on-the-job learning opportunities to develop technical skills and knowledge of maintenance practices.
- Following safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization in work areas and storage areas for tools and equipment.
- Assisting with maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and inventory levels.
- Collaborating with team members and other departments to support maintenance projects and campus operations.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in maintenance, building trades, or a related field is a plus.
Experience:
- Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, with a willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and other equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to performing tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and take direction from supervisors and more experienced technicians.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as respond to emergencies as needed.
Essential Job Functions

Work may be in hot, cold, dusty, rainy, windy, and noisy conditions and in other inclement weather. Work may require lifting as much as 75 pounds. Working requires frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and lifting. Employees work independently using work assigned via work orders or direct orders from supervisor.
