Description

This position requires working directly with the Code Enforcement Team to resolve zoning and environmental

control violations. The work includes but is not limited to: responding to citizens’ complaints regarding potential

violations of the County’s Solid Waste Ordinance (i.e., illegal dumping and accumulation of solid waste) and

the County’s Zoning and Land Development Regulations Ordinance (i.e., short-term rentals, signage,

construction, tree removal, and land use); explaining the steps to bring properties into compliance and

ensuring that violations are rectified; researching property ownership records, current permits, previous

violations and applicable codes; coordinating code enforcement actions with other county departments, the

Sheriff’s Office, local and State government agencies when necessary; and representing the County in cases

that go to court. This position is responsible for coordinating with the County Legal Department staff to prepare

for court hearings and providing evidence and/or testimonyin Court as requested. This position also works in

the County’s Emergency Operations Center when activated and performs other related work as assigned.


SALARY RANGE: $50,440 - $55,140 (Estimated Annual Salary)

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education - High school diploma/GED required; Degree in Public Administration, Planning, Political Science, Law Enforcement, Environmental Studies, or a similar field is preferred.

Minimum Qualification - A minimum of 3 years or more of experience in Law enforcement, code enforcement, building inspections, environmental/health inspections, zoning administration, or military service is required. Current, valid, South Carolina Driver License required.

Experience in planning/zoning, code enforcement, or a related field is required. Graduation from High

School or possession of a GED and the following are required:

  • Valid South Carolina driver’s license showing a clean DMV record;
  • A favorable background investigation which includes:
    • Criminal history check
    • Employment history
    • Driving history
  • Medical/Physical examination, including drug testing.
  • Within one year of employment, may be required to complete the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) courses required to work in the Emergency Operations Center when activated.
