Description

The duties and responsibilities include: assisting victims/witnesses through the entire criminal justice process; contacting crime victims/witnesses by telephone, letter, and occasionally in person, to notify them of an offender’s status; acting as a liaison between the victims, the employers, law enforcement, social services, and non-profit organizations; representing the Sheriff’s Office at various functions; advising victims of case status; preparing monthly status reports; and maintaining case files. Duties may also include attending bond hearings with victims, as a support person; assisting victims in preparation for court appearances; and attending parole hearings when necessary. Applicants must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to handle individuals tactfully and with discretion in a highly emotional and stressful situation. Ability to interpret/translate during investigatory interviews. Typing and computer proficiency are a must. Position may be subject to call-out after hours, on weekends, and during emergencies. Performs other related duties as assigned.

**The work hours required for this position vary and are subject to rotation. Work hours and schedule are subject to change according to the needs of the organization. Under normal circumstances, work hours should not extend past 11:00 p.m.**


SALARY RANGE:HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $25.40 - $28.61

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution and 3-5 years of experience in social services, the criminal justice system, or law enforcement; or any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.


Minimum Requirements:

A qualified applicant must 1) be bilingual (English/Spanish). 2) be a Citizen of the United States at least 18 years of age of older 3) possess a current valid SC driver’s license or be able to obtain one prior to hire; 4) no criminal convictions; and 5) meet minimum education requirement listed above. Applicants with military experience must have received an honorable discharge. Applicants meeting these minimum requirements must submit to, and successfully complete, all phases of the hiring process to be considered for employment. The process includes but is not limited to the following: the Nelson-Denny Reading Test, a two-phase background investigation, a credit check, a psychological examination/evaluation, a polygraph examination, an oral interview, and upon an offer of employment, a pre-employment physical examination.
