This position is responsible for enforcing State and County laws and ordinances regarding stray, dangerous, nuisance and unwanted domestic and wild animals.
SALARY RANGE: $20.59 – $23.67

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include: patrolling assigned areas, answering citizen complaints, resolving and investigating animal control complaints, keeping and maintaining routine records and making reports; impounding, trapping and transporting domestic, wild and dead animals, providing needed information to the shelter staff on health, temperament, etc., for safe handling and other duties as assigned. Assigned emergency call-out on a weekly rotational basis. This position performs under the supervision and direction of a Deputy Sheriff Sergeant and other command officers. Considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Position requires excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications

Position requires U.S. citizenship, a high school diploma (from an accredited school) or GED supplemented by three years of experience in animal control, kennel work, animal shelter work. National Animal Control Association Certification, Code Enforcement Officer Commission, or Police Explorer experience are preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a South Carolina one upon acceptance of the position. Candidates must be able to demonstrate proficiency in PC applications using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and RMS. Position requires NCIC certification (16 hour) or the ability to gain certification within six (6) months of assignment.
