This position maintains courtroom evidence pursuant to South Carolina Statutes and Rules of Court.


HIRING SALARY: $43,950 (Estimated annualized compensation)

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include: ensure that courtroom evidence is maintained safely, and is properly secured while under the custody of the Clerk of Court and is disposed of properly and in a timely fashion; provide administrative support to judges within a courtroom during terms of court, including completing paperwork, administering oaths to witnesses, taking minutes of proceedings; manage jury panels to ensure that sufficient numbers of jurors are available to conduct jury trials; assist individual jurors with transportation, parking and employment issues; issue and sign jury payroll checks on a weekly basis.

Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a high school diploma (or GED), supplemented with four (4) or more years’ experience in a courtroom setting or law office. Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or Paralegal Studies preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires knowledge of South Carolina law; South Carolina Rules of Civil Procedure; guidelines, rules and procedures of the South Carolina Supreme Court and South Carolina Court Administration; policies and procedures of the Charleston County Clerk of Court; knowledge of rules of civil procedures. This position requires the ability to follow oral and written policies, procedures and instructions; the ability to communicate effectively with others; the ability to speak before large audience; the ability to perform various duties with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines; the ability to manage multiple tasks or events simultaneously; must be able to move boxes of evidence up to 50 lbs. daily. Excellent computer skills (Word and Excel) and interpersonal and communication skills are a must. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion is required. Must possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain a South Carolina license upon acceptance of the position is required. ONLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATES NEED APPLY.
