HIRING SALARY RANGE: $118,310 to $141,000 (Salary dependent upon applicant’s qualifications)

Duties and Responsibilities

A highly responsible leadership role overseeing the following core divisions: Transportation Infrastructure Capital Project Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, and Inspection (CE&I), and Pavement Management. This position will lead a 27-person team and together manage and optimize the transportation capital improvement program for Charleston County. He/She will be responsible for the oversight of the $2.1 billion Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax program, state “C” funds approximating $10 million annually (gas tax funds for transportation infrastructure) as well as managing/obtaining outside funding sources for projects. This position will require strong skills in strategic management, communication, administration, budget management, and future financial planning. The ideal candidate will have local and/or state experience in managing transportation projects.

Duties include: monitoring multi-million-dollar project budgets, improving processes for the team, providing support and guidance to staff, promoting a positive team culture by supporting work-life balance, and providing excellent customer service.

Minimum Qualifications

Position requires licensure as a South Carolina Professional Engineer (or another state with the ability to obtain SC licensure within six (6) months). A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering is required, a MS Degree in a related field is desired, and ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible engineering management, project management, and/or program management is required. Supervisory experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering design, fundamentals, and construction management. Knowledgeable in local, federal, and state permitting regulations. Must have ability to communicate effectively and the ability to work under pressure within critical time frames on multiple projects. Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain a South Carolina license upon acceptance of the position is required.
