The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has an opening for an Administrative Assistant I.

The employee will handle personal information in a sensitive, professional manner while providing a high level of customer service in person and over the phone. Must be able to communicate with diplomacy during difficult situations. In this role you will provide administrative and technical support to the Coroner, Chief Deputy Coroner, Supervisors and other Coroner staff.


HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $15.00 - $18.60

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

Excellent communication skills, data entry and reporting from other electronic sources; filing, preparing written correspondence using proper grammar and spelling. Ability to utilize all Microsoft applications with proficiency. Answers incoming calls, transferring calls, greets visitors, and provides general assistance and information. Performs various additional administrative duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years or more of office assistant/secretarial experience and/or Associate’s Degree or higher.
  • Proven ability to communicate during challenging situations.
  • Advanced Microsoft computer skills.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from High School or possession of a Ged
  • One (1) or more years of experience in general office operations, including computer experience and interacting with the general public.
  • Ability to obtain a commission as a Notary Public within 3 months of hire.
  • Must be a US citizen, permanent resident, or possess an Employment Authorization Document (EAD)
  • Must have no felony convictions; misdemeanors will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis
  • Demonstrate the ability to type a minimum of 35 words per minute (WPN)
  • Complete computer aptitude test and applicant performance assessment

Pass a background investigation which will include driving record, employment history, employment education, and training verification, illegal conduct (drug use, etc.), reference check, and polygraph examination.
