Job Summary

The Commercial Training Manager will lead the development and execution of initiatives aligned with the Microbial Solutions Commercial Training Strategic Plan supporting our mission, vision, and key business priorities. Management of the sales operations including sales administration, sales training, and commercial team onboarding. Manage and develop processes and tools essential to the sales force productivity. Efforts include sales process and tools optimization, reporting and measurement of KPI’s, sales training programs, and technology infrastructure design. This person will work closely with key stakeholders in generating content on effective portfolio knowledge and positioning, best practices in territory management and utilization of sales tools. In addition to managing the ongoing continuous training for the team, assist and manage the onboard training program for new hires and provide necessary reports/assessments for Sales Management to ensure the program is achieving the stated goals.

We are seeking a results-driven training manager to join our team Microbial Solutions Commercial Team. You will be responsible for leading the training function, developing training strategies and implementing programs to supporting our mission, vision, and key business priorities. You will play a pivotal role in building a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the Microbial Solutions division at Charles River.

The ideal candidate is a strategic leader passionate about designing and implementing effective training programs. They are experienced in training management, talent development and organizational learning. This position will be remote, work from home office with about 30% travel to the CRL Charleston, SC site.

Objectives of the Role

• Partner with Sales Leadership and Marketing to define training goals that translate strategy into effective field execution. Develop and implement the training and development strategy in alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

• Build and maintain comprehensive onboarding covering product, process, industry, and tools for all sales roles.

• Act as a change leader within the Commercial organization, driving adoption of new learning technologies, enabling transformation efforts, and shaping a culture of performance excellence and continuous development.

• Identify knowledge and skill gaps; create competency-based learning solutions to close them. Continuously enhance training programs to support onboarding, development, and long-term performance. Evaluate training effectiveness and evolve programs to sustain and elevate field capabilities.

• Apply instructional design methodology, adult learning principles, and project management expertise when planning, developing, and facilitating initial and continuous learning curricula.

• Design, develop and deliver training programs for NPI’s, service enhancements and strategic partnerships using various instructional techniques and formats, including classroom training, e-learning and workshops.

• Evaluate training effectiveness and optimize training content & methods through assessments, surveys, performance evaluations and stakeholder feedback to measure learning outcomes and make continuous improvements. Conducts regular needs assessments to develop new programs and to continuously improve existing training programs, resources, and frameworks.

• Manage the training budget, resources and logistics to ensure efficient and effective delivery of training programs.

• Partner with corporate and business unit training and hiring managers to initiate onboarding and training activities during candidate selection process.

• Coordinate onboarding logistics with Sales Operations Administrator

• Determine training needs by traveling with sales representatives; observing sales encounters; studying sales results reports; conferring with sales managers. Travel with new hires approximately 90 days post-hire to review onboarding experience and troubleshoot sales activities.

• Prepare new sales representatives by conducting orientation to sales process.

• Stays current on industry trends to inform new program delivery and design through technology, innovation, and cutting-edge approaches.

• Cultivates strong working relationships and collaborates closely with stakeholders at all levels in the organization, including sales leadership, Product Management, Scientific Portfolio Specialists, Strategic Marketing, and R&D teams.

• Ensure seamless training execution and oversee planning, logistics, and delivery to ensure an engaging, high-impact training experience for all participants.

• Support global training Expansion and partner with the team to ensure training is successfully executed in APAC regions.

• Develops and leads training interactions and workshops for regional/global Sales Meetings, Mid-Year Meetings, etc. as needed.

Job Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) equivalent in life sciences, sales, or related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 plus years in sales enablement, product training, or technical education in high-growth B2B (Life Sciences strongly preferred). Previous sales experience in managing customer relationships and revenue generation preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to grow a team with internal and outside talent.
  • Bias for action—executing quickly, testing new ideas, and iterating based on results
  • Excellent communication, presentation skills and attention to detail. Proficient in the use of standard office computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, e-mail) and CRM (Salesforce.com, or similar).
  • Strong sales experience, passion for teaching, collaborative, attention to detail and willingness to challenge themselves and the organization for growth
  • Demonstrated proficiency managing analytically rigorous initiatives. IT proficiency in CRM databases, Excel Pivot tables and mobile technologies.

Compensation Data

The pay range for this position is $80,000 – $105,000K USD annually. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
