UTILITY LOCATOR II

OBJECTIVES

A. To perform advanced underground utility locating duties with a high degree of accuracy, technical proficiency, and independent judgment, supporting the Cooperative's commitment to preventing system damage and ensuring the integrity of its underground distribution system.

B. To demonstrate mastery of required locator training and actively participate in advanced continuing education, ensuring ongoing development in complex locating techniques, troubleshooting, damage prevention strategies, and regulatory compliance.

C. To promote and model excavation safety in accordance with the South Carolina Underground Facilities Damage Prevention Act (SCUFDPA). Employee shall possess an in-depth understanding of all SCUFDPA requirements and be capable of interpreting and applying them in the field, as well as guiding others in proper compliance.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

A. Reports to: Underground Facilities Locating Supervisor.

B. Directs: None, but shall provide Utility Locator I with informal guidance, field mentoring and technical support as necessary or requested.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or GED required.

EXPERIENCE:

Three (3) years experience as a utility locator is required; A minimum of two (2) years in the position is required to become proficient in the job and to be eligible for promotion.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

Shall possess and demonstrate a working knowledge of the Cooperative's distribution system, Cooperative policies and safety rules and regulations. Have general construction knowledge of the Cooperative's underground system. Use and care of PPE is required.

ABILITIES & SKILLS:

Perform all locating tasks on an underground electrical distribution system. Shall have ability to operate hand tools and any locating instrument that is provided by the Cooperative, to include radio devices as well as ground penetrating radar (GPR) units. Must have a valid South Carolina driver's license. Basic computer skills is a must, intermediate level computer skills are preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Outside work in various weather conditions. Regular work hours with some overtime and extended workdays due to "on call" or emergency locates are required. Some overnight travel involved. Excessive daily walking in uneven and often wooded terrain, stooping, bending and lifting of heavy objects up to 50 pounds required. Participating in a "standby" or "on-call" rotation is required.
