INTERNSHIP- UTILITY FORESTER ASSISTANT

POSITION SUMMARY

Internship positions are available from May through August depending on applicant availability

To provide efficient and effective support services to various departments within Berkeley Electric Cooperative, Inc.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assist the Utility Foresters in planning, auditing, scheduling, and coordinating all activity associated with prescribed brush control and tree related work assignments, accessibility issues, and other related duties with clearing along our easements. Which includes the designation of daily activities, performing weekly reviews, monitoring weekly production reports, performing other measurements, and making frequent field visits for direct observation.
  • Assist in handling member complaints related to scheduled trimming/removals, including clean up and property damage.
  • Assist BEC line clearance crews performing trimming maintenance to gain an understanding of the tools and techniques used to maintain the Cooperative's right of way.
  • All duties as assigned within the parameters of all applicable federal, state, and local labor and safety laws and/or regulations.
  • All positions are required to participate in weekly group meetings with other interns. May involve special assignments and field trips.

EDUCATION

  • Must be a high school senior or enrolled in a university or college program, preferred course of study would be a 2- or 4-year Forestry program or related field.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be able to read maps and identify tree species.
  • Knowledge of basic arboricultural practices and pruning standards.

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and in a friendly and personable manner with employees, contractors and the general public.

  • Promptness is extremely important. Must be a team player.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Outside work in various weather conditions. Climbing, stooping, bending and lifting of heavy objects up to 100 pounds required.
