GIS MAPPING ASSISTANT

POSITION SUMMARY

Internship positions are available from May through August, depending on when candidates are off from their academic year

To provide efficient and effective support services to our GIS department within Berkeley Electric Cooperative, Inc.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• To assist the GIS Manager and GIS Technicians in maintaining the mapping system to ensure that the electrical system drawing and model, the associated database and connectivity, and the geographical background are accurate and current.
• Assists in producing maps, diagrams, drawings and reports as needed, using the GIS, ESRI apps, ArcGIS Online and AutoCAD software or other related software or systems.

• All duties as assigned within the parameters of all applicable federal, state, and local labor and safety laws and/or regulations.
• All positions are required to participate in weekly group meetings with other interns. May involve special assignments and field trips.

EDUCATION

• Must be a high school senior or enrolled in a university or college program, preferred course of study would be GIS /GPS/ Geography or Engineering related field.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Must have good general office and computer skills, be detail oriented, reliable, efficient, conscientious and able to work with minimal supervision. Must have organizational skills.

• Must have the ability to communicate effectively and in a friendly and personable manner with employees and the general public.

• Skills in GPS and/or Drones and skills in SQL and Python Scripting preferred but not required

• Promptness is extremely important. Must be a team player.

WORKING CONDITIONS

General office setting. Mostly sitting at desk. Some lifting, bending, and stooping. Some field work will be required.
