ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST

I. OBJECTIVES

• To manage accounts payable function with a focus on attention to detail, efficiency, correct coding, and adherence with sales tax regulations.
• To provide complete and accurate financial records and reports per established Cooperative Accounting Policies and Procedures, the RUS Uniform System of Accounts and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• To provide accurate data to the vendors, members, employees, staff, and management of Berkeley Electric
• To provide analysis of financial results and insight into drivers of those
• Develop and implement recommendations for accounting policy and procedure that increase accuracy, user friendliness, and efficiency.

II. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

• Reports to: Manager of Accounting
• Directs: None

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Associates degree in Accounting, Business or related field. Additional experience in accounts payable, cooperative accounting, capital credits, or similar may substitute for education requirement.

EXPERIENCE:

Four (4) years' experience in accounts payable, accounting, or other relevant cooperative experience, plus one (1) year in position to become proficient. Additional education in accounting may substitute for experience requirement.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

Comprehensive knowledge of accounting office procedures. Must be familiar with the RUS Uniform System of Accounts and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as well as the Cooperative's accounting system.

ABILITIES & SKILLS:

Must be able to use office equipment. Must be able to type and be proficient with operating a ten key calculator. Must be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally. Must have analytical skills. Must understand basic computer operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Usual office working conditions with regular working hours and occasional overtime. Must be able to work under pressure. Periodic travel outside the Cooperative's service area may be needed.
