LINE CLEARANCE ARBORIST

Will consider a Line Clearance Groundman, Line Clearance Arborist I, or Line Clearance Arborist II

OBJECTIVES

  • To further the knowledge and understanding of right-of-way maintenance through growth habits and correct arboricultural techniques used in trimming, pruning, and removing trees around the Cooperative's electrical distribution system.

  • To learn and to promote safety in accordance with the policies and procedures in order to maintain safe working conditions.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Line Clearance Foreman
Directs: None

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

High school education or equivalent required. Must be a qualified Line Clearance Arborist. TCIA (Tree Care Industry Association) Aerial lift specialist designation, acquire within two (2) years of hire date.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of one (1) year as a Groundman. May consider equivalent experience at the Cooperative or another electric utility or tree service company. A minimum of two (2) years is required in this position to become proficient in the job and eligible for promotion.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

Should have basic knowledge of equipment and tools used in right-of-way clearing. Should be familiar with right-of-way specifications. Should know Berkeley Electric Cooperative's safety rules and regulations.

ABILITIES & SKILLS:

Perform basic operation with power saws and other right-of-way tools and utilize these tools while in tree. Must have ability to climb with hooks.
Ability to maintain Line Clearance Arborist certification. Must possess and maintain a valid SC commercial driver's license with air brake and combination endorsements. Should have ability to operate tractors, skid steers, backhoes and other right-of-way equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work outside in various weather conditions. Regular hours with some overtime. Some climbing, stooping, bending, and lifting of objects up to 100 pounds required. Subject to calls at night and on weekends in emergency situations.
