Job Summary and Essential Functions

This position provides pastoral care and counseling for Berkeley County Law Enforcement Officers, and responds to death scenes to provide spiritual assistance to families in times of crisis.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Assisting the Senior Chaplain with response and detention center duties as needed.
- Providing emotional and spiritual support to officers and their families, especially during stressful situations or after traumatic events.
- Providing crisis intervention by responding to incidents such as officer-involved shootings, accidents, death scenes, hostage situations, and barricaded suspects, offering support to those affected.
- Assisting in notifying families about the death of a loved one, often in the line of duty.
- Participating in community events, building more trusting relationships between the agency and the public.
- Serving as a pastoral liaison between the Sheriff’s Office and the community, including other clergy or faith leaders.
- Maintaining complete confidentiality with officers and others seeking emotional and spiritual support.
- Participating in and/or leading prayer during ceremonies, funerals, and special events as needed.
- Providing support to victims of crime and their families as needed.
- Contributing during agency training of agency personnel as directed.
- Occasionally accompanying officers on patrol to provide a calming presence and observe firsthand the challenges they face.
- May perform tasks which involve driving their own vehicle or a county vehicle.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements to Perform Work

- High School diploma or equivalent;
- Two (2) years of related experience;
- Must have and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record;
- Ability to speak both English and Spanish preferred;
Physical Demands
This position requires the employee to sit and use hands to handle, feel, finger, grasp or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; use mental acuity and repetitive motion; and walk, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Conditions
The work is regularly performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities and needs. This position will not exceed twenty-nine (29) hours per week. Normal weekly schedule will be four day work weeks, with the ability to work earlier or later hours when necessary. Scheduled hours/days, job location, duties and any other information contained herein is subject to change. May be required to work extra hours and to perform extra or different duties during emergency situations.
