Job Summary and Essential Functions

This position provides assistant with planning, coordination, and assistance for County communications, including internal and external communications, media relations, publications, marketing/advertising, and photo, audio-visual, and graphics; a proactive and responsive flow of information that is accurate, timely, and appropriate to promote the awareness, understanding and support for the organizations policies and services; and development, coordination and management communication strategies and functions that support Berkeley County goals and objectives and enhance positive relationships with employees, local government, community leaders and the public; and deals courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Prepare press releases on behalf of Berkeley County for dissemination to the media and/or public;
- Create graphics and other content for marketing & promotional purposes;
- Respond to media inquiries pertaining to County Government topics
- Distribute and manage content to the public via multiple County-operated social media accounts (e.g. Cypress Gardens, Berkeley County Government, etc.);
- Produce printed media for dissemination to County staff and external entities;
- Develop content for County-managed websites;
- Organize special events (e.g., news conferences, ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings, blood drives, other ceremonies);
- Manage digital signage on TV monitors stationed in/around County buildings, with County-related informational text and graphics;
- Plan, Coordinate, and Develop a monthly internal newsletter for County employees;
- Assist the public by providing customer service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements to Perform Work

- High School diploma or equivalent; studies in Communications preferred;
- Six (6) months general work experience;
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:- Departmental testing may be administered during interview;
- A criminal background check will be completed on selected applicant if a current one (less than 3 years old) is not on file.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:- Skill in communication (both written and oral), human relations, organization and analytics.
- Knowledge of personal computers, including Word and Excel.
- Skill in clerical tasks including filing, customer service, math, data entry and correct grammar usage.
- Skill in the use of general office equipment.
Physical Demands
This position requires the employee to sit and use hands to handle, feel, finger, grasp or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; use mental acuity and repetitive motion; and walk, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Conditions
The work is regularly performed in a relatively safe, secure and stable work environment. Hours will not exceed twenty-nine (29) hours per week. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9am and 5pm. Schedules are flexible.
