Job Summary and Essential Functions

This position assists and supports the daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office Supply & Logistics Division. The Logistics Technician provides support to the department’s Supply & Logistics Lieutenant and Supply & Logistics Specialist. This department is responsible for equipping the deputies with uniforms and gear, fully equipped vehicles, as well as facilitating the day-to-day office supply and equipment needs of Sheriff’s Office staff; and deals courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Data entry and advanced use of word processing and spreadsheet software programs.
  • Tracking supplies and duty gear and ordering stock when needed.
  • Draft, edit and distribute correspondence.
  • Liaison and negotiate with suppliers.
  • Assists Risk Management and fellow employees regarding vehicular accident reports.
  • Assists Supply & Logistics staff with coordinating vehicles to and from the county shop for repairs.
  • Issues firearms, tasers, and other restraints (Must be comfortable around loaded and unloaded firearms).
  • Directs citizen complaints to the appropriate command staff for follow up.
  • Prepares/maintains/updates of complex reports.
  • Assists citizens in obtaining county services; may answer fairly complex questions from citizens regarding services.
  • Records management and/or retention.
  • May perform tasks which involve driving their own vehicle or a county vehicle.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements to Perform Work

  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • Two (2) years of related administrative experience;
  • Must have and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record;
Special Requirements:
  • Data Entry/Basic Skills score of 77, Word score of 55 and Excel score of 50 are required for this position;
  • Departmental testing may be administered during interview;
  • A criminal background check will be completed on selected applicant if a current one (less than 3 years old) is not on file.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of personal computers, including Word and Excel.
  • Skill in clerical tasks including filing, customer service, math, data entry and correct grammar usage.
  • Skill in the use of general office equipment.

Physical Demands

This position requires the employee to sit and use hands to handle, feel, finger, grasp or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; use mental acuity and repetitive motion; and walk, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Conditions

The work is regularly performed in a relatively safe, secure and stable work environment. This position will not exceed twenty-nine (29) hours per week. Normal weekly schedule will be four day work weeks, with the ability to work earlier or later hours when necessary. Scheduled hours/days, job location, duties and any other information contained herein is subject to change. May be required to work extra hours and to perform extra or different duties during emergency situations.
