Job Summary and Essential Functions

This position typically provides installation and repair of pipes, conduits, meters, hydrants and fittings in the wastewater collection system; assists in making of all size taps, types of joints and in repairing all types of broken mains, valves, meters, lines and manholes; and deals courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens. May also assist in locating sources of inflow and infiltration into the sanitary collection system.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Maneuvers and sets manhole rings and covers.
- Removes and/or replaces dirt, water, materials and/or debris from the work site.
- Reads, removes, replaces, sets or shuts off meters.
- Handles and mixes bags of cement, and maneuver in a wheelbarrow.
- Performs routine tasks with hand tools, (shovels, rakes, wrenches, trowels, etc.).
- Performs light maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Responds to public inquiries and investigates public complaints associated with the wastewater collection system.
- Works on emergency repairs and services unsupervised.
- Creates and attaches documents and photos and adds assets to GIS.
- Writes and submits documents responsible for builders to finish properties.
- Performs inspections on the new installation of plumbing for commercial construction builders.
- Visually inspects the sanitary collection system for inflow and infiltration activities by visually monitoring mains for flow amounts and by inspecting manholes.
- Assists in writing inflow and infiltration reports for the CCTV inspection crew and manhole rehabilitation crew to locate or repair problem areas.
- Assists in installing, maintaining and removing computerized flow monitoring equipment.
- Assists in performing smoke and dye testing to locate additional sources of inflow and infiltration; maps and documents all test results.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements to Perform Work

- High School diploma or equivalent;
- Six (6) months of experience in general maintenance and/or construction in a utility environment preferred;
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license for South Carolina with safe driving record;
- Must be able to obtain a valid Class B CDL within six (6) months of employment;
- Must be able to obtain a Class D Wastewater Collection license within twenty-four (24) months of employment;
- Serves "on-call" status on a rotating basis as well as after hours and weekends on an emergency basis.
- Departmental testing may be administered during interview;
- A criminal background check will be completed on selected applicant if a current one (less than 3 years old) is not on file.
- This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to operate utility vehicles, backhoe, mini excavators and related equipment.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability write legible and descriptive reports on duties performed.
- Ability to deal with the public to include handling potential difficult customers and volatile situations.
- Ability to qualify physically for wearing self-contained breathing equipment.
- Ability to use small office equipment, computers and highly technical computer applications.
- Ability to use or repair small, medium and heavy equipment and machinery.

This position requires the employee to reach, pull and push with hands and arms; stand; use hands to handle, feel, finger, grasp or operate objects, tools or controls; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use mental acuity and repetitive motion; and walk, talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ninety-five (95) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Conditions

The work is regularly performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities and needs. Thirty-seven and one
half (37.5) hours per week. Normal working hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with the ability to work after hours when necessary. Scheduled hours/days, job location, duties and any other information contained herein is subject to change. May be required to work extra hours and to perform extra or different duties during
emergency situations.
