Job Summary and Essential Functions

This position typically provides performance of highly complex clerical tasks; and deals courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  

  • Prepares financial statements and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected financial positions. 
  • Applies accounting principles to analyze financial data detailing assets, liabilities and capital. 
  • Coordinate with the Assessor, Treasurer and Auditor to develop revenue and tax forecasts.
  • Prepare and monitor the budget/revenue and budget/expenditure monthly reports for assigned departments.
  • Prepares work papers for annual audits by outside agencies or firms. 
  • Research and provide technical advice on accounting matters. 
  • Reconcile accounts and prepare journal entries. 
  • Performs budget preparation and administration.
  • Attend meetings in the absence of the Finance Manager or as a Finance liaison if instructed by the Finance Manager.
  • Perform journal entries that adhere to GAAP standards and ensure proper balancing of company general ledger accounts.
  • Assists in budget preparation and administration. 
  • Researches and provides accounting support by maintaining reports and spreadsheets. 
  • Communicates in a courteous and professional manner with others to attain appropriate information and documentation. 
  • Supports accountants and other staff members as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements to Perform Work
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Four (4) years of related accounting experience; 

Special Requirements: 

  • Maintains strict confidentiality in performing the duties and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential;
  • County testing may be administered during interview;  
  • A criminal background check will be completed on selected applicant if a current one (less than 3 years old) is not on file.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Skill in using personal computers including Microsoft Word and Excel. 
  • Skill in basic clerical tasks including filing, customer service, math, data entry and correct grammar usage.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and exhibit strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and judgment in interpreting and adapting guidelines to specific cases or problems.
  • Ability to accept payment, process purchase orders and manage grant funds.
Physical Demands

This position requires the employee to sit and use hands to handle, finger, grasp or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Conditions

The work is regularly performed in a relatively safe, secure and stable work environment. Standard operating hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the ability to work after hours when necessary. Must be able to attend evening County Council and other group meetings as needed. Scheduled hours/days, job location, duties and any other information contained herein are subject to change.  May be required to work extra hours and to perform extra or different duties during emergency situations.
