What is a Milling Groundsperson? A Milling Groundsperson plays a vital role in our milling operations by supporting the milling crew in preparing roadways for resurfacing. This entry-level position involves assisting with equipment operation, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring job site safety and cleanliness. While previous experience is not required, a mechanical inclination and technical skills are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Equipment Operation: Support the milling machine operator by guiding machinery, monitoring operations, and ensuring efficient workflow.
  • Perform Routine Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and basic maintenance of milling equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Job Site Preparation and Cleanup: Prepare work areas by setting up necessary equipment, removing debris, and maintaining a clean and organized job site.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all company and OSHA safety protocols, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and promoting a safe work environment.
  • Material Handling: Assist in loading and unloading materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring proper storage and handling.
  • Communication: Collaborate effectively with team members, including operators, foremen, and other laborers, to achieve project goals and deadlines.
  • Flexibility: Be available to work variable hours, including days, nights, weekends, and overtime as project schedules demand.
Requirements

Who You Are:

  • Mechanically Inclined: Possess a strong aptitude for understanding and working with machinery and tools.
  • Technically Skilled: Comfortable using various tools and equipment, with the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
  • Physically Fit: Capable of performing manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Reliable and Punctual: Demonstrate a strong work ethic by consistently showing up on time and being dependable.
  • Willing to Learn: Open to training and development opportunities to advance skills within the heavy highway construction industry.
  • Flexible: Willingness to work flexible hours, including day and night shifts, to meet project requirements.
  • Mathematically Proficient (Preferred): Basic math skills are advantageous for measurements and calculations related to milling operations.
