What is the role of the Transportation Division?

The Transportation Division exists to safely deliver materials, equipment, and fuel to our job sites or plant facilities when our team or customers need it at the lowest cost. We have 48 tri-axle dump trucks, 5 lowboys, 1 liquid tanker, 2 cement tankers, 5 tack trucks, 2 sweeper trucks, and 2 fuel trucks.


What is a Transportation Project Engineer?

The Transportation Project Engineer focuses on enhancing safety protocols, minimizing truck downtime, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and maximizing operational efficiency within the transportation division.

Requirements

What you’ll get to do:


Safety and Compliance:

· Assists in developing and implementing comprehensive safety training programs for drivers and transportation personnel to ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements.

· Conducts regular safety meetings to monitor and improve safety standards and practices.

· Supports and assists with compliance efforts with DOT regulations, vehicle inspections, licensing requirements, and hours of service guidelines.

· Collaborates with the Transportation Manager to implement safety protocols in an effort to keep our people and the traveling public safe.

Truck Maintenance and Appearance:

· Assists in maintaining a well-maintained fleet of trucks and equipment by coordinating regular inspections, preventive maintenance schedules, and repairs.

· Upholds high standards of cleanliness for all trucks, inside and out, ensuring a professional and presentable appearance.

· Implements and monitors cleaning schedules and protocols to remove dirt, debris, and contaminants from trucks to enhance their appearance and longevity.

· Ensures all safety features, such as lights, mirrors, mud flaps and reflective markings, are clean and operational to promote visibility and road safety.

Operational Efficiency:

· Supports the Transportation Manager in optimizing route planning, scheduling, and dispatching to minimize delivery times and maximize truck utilization.

· Assists in implementing efficient processes to reduce turnaround times at job sites and material sites.

· Utilizes fleet management software and GPS tracking systems to monitor vehicle movements, optimize routes, and improve overall operational efficiency.

· Collaborates with drivers and dispatchers to streamline operations and address operational challenges effectively.

Cost Management and Efficiency:

· Assists in managing transportation costs by optimizing fuel consumption, minimizing idle time, and reducing unnecessary mileage.

· Supports and leads cost-saving initiatives such as route optimization, cutting material or job site time, and vehicle maintenance programs to enhance profitability.

· Monitors key performance indicators related to fuel efficiency, vehicle utilization, and maintenance costs to identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational improvement.

· Works with the Transportation Manager to balance cost-control measures with investments in technology, training, and infrastructure improvements to ensure long-term sustainability and competitiveness.

Continuous Improvement and Employee Development:

· Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance transportation operations, efficiency, and customer service.

· Supports training and development programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of transportation staff, promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.

· Encourages employee involvement in identifying areas for improvement and implementing innovative solutions to enhance transportation operations.

Who you are:

· Preferably, you have a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Business

· Preferably, you have experience working in the trucking or construction industry

· You are proficient in Microsoft Office

· You have the ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals.

· You have lead people or are motivated to learn how to lead people at a crew level

$65,000-$75,000 annual salary
