For example, qualified freshmen can earn a maximum of $3,125 from the ASPIRE Scholarship, and dependents of Southern Baptist pastors can apply for the International Missionary Dependent Award.
The concept of the county as a governmental entity originated in Europe. Large areas, often containing several villages, were usually governed by a count. When the Normans conquered England, they used county to describe the geographical areas then known as shires. Eventually, counties evolved to include law enforcement, representation in Parliament and delivery of administrative justice. It was this concept of county that made its way to the Colonies and the Province of Carolina.

The College offers outstanding academics, particularly in undergraduate education. More than 50 majors and even more minors are available, including some unique interdisciplinary programs. In addition, the College of Charleston’s graduate school provides more than 20 master’s degree programs. Students in search of even more specialized training can enroll in one of C of C’s graduate certificate programs, which include Arts Management, Service-Oriented Computing and Special Education. Student life at C of C provides the opportunity to join more than 180 student organizations, as well as several service programs and special campus events. Charleston also boasts an active Greek life with more than 20 national fraternities and sororities. The College of Charleston has a rolling admissions policy. Strictly speaking, there is no application deadline, as the admissions office accepts students until space is filled. It’s a good idea to apply early, though, particularly for maximum financial aid consideration. The priority application deadline for incoming freshmen is February 10.
